Here's an underappreciated dessert, the Dutch-Indonesian traditional layer cake. This cake commonly has more than 18 layers!
Happy to discover a bakery in Aman Suria - Ambon Boenda making these authentic goodies. So how did it taste?
We love it! The cake is moist, has a firm-texture and is not too sweet. The best part for me is the pleasant hint of the aromatic mixed spices especially the scent of cinnamon. I also enjoy the part where you could feel the layers when biting into it.
They currently offer 5 flavours - original, prunes, pandan, mocha & cranberries. The first 3 being my personal favourites. The layer cake prices range from RM 38.90 to RM 148.90, great as gifts or shared among friends and family. *or you could keep them in the fridge all for yourself because they stay good for at least 2 weeks to a month*
Ending with a fun fact, the Dutch term for this cake is spekkoek. It translates as pork belly due to it's appearance of the dark and light layers. One more close up shot to highlight the intricate layers of this charming dessert.
